Beaches in Lofoten

Hov beach

Nearest: Kabelvåg

White sandy beaches at Hov on the north side of Gimsøya, beside the Lofoten Links golf course and the Hov Gård horse farm. Hov Gård runs guided rides on Icelandic horses along the sand, and Hov Camping sits by the beach with views out to sea.

Kallestranda

Nearest: Kabelvåg

A beach at Kalle on Austvågøya, next to a state-secured outdoor area with about 4,200 m of shoreline, caves, walking routes and climbing on Vågakallen. Visit Lofoten lists Kallestranda among family beaches. Tents and overnight motorhomes are restricted.

Vinje beach

Nearest: Kabelvåg

A white sandy beach at Vinje on Gimsøya. The Norwegian Environment Agency's register describes a popular sand beach with a midnight sun view, used for bathing, volleyball and kiting. Hov Gård's half-day ride from Hov ends here.

Rørvikstranda

Nearest: Henningsvær

A sandy beach at Rørvika on Austvågøya, beside the E10 junction for Henningsvær, looking across to Vestvågøya. It is a state-secured public recreation area, used by Henningsvær residents and visitors and busy on warm summer days.

Haukland beach

Nearest: Leknes

A sheltered sandy beach on the north side of Vestvågøya, about ten minutes' drive from Leknes, with a car park beside the sand. A service building has a café, toilets open all year and activity rental. Tents are banned in marked zones.

Unstad beach

Nearest: Leknes

A surf beach at the end of the road at Unstad, a settlement of fewer than 20 people on the outer coast of Vestvågøya, about 23 minutes' drive from Leknes. Point breaks sit either side of the sandy bay. Unstad Arctic Surf has rooms, a café, rentals and a surf school.

Uttakleiv beach

Nearest: Leknes

A beach of sand and large rounded stones at Uttakleiv, a small farming community on the north side of Vestvågøya. Local farmers run the visitor facilities, and entry and parking are paid by number-plate recognition. Paths lead to Haukland, Mannen and Himmeltinden.

Vik beach

Nearest: Leknes

A sandy bay at Vik on the north side of Vestvågøya, about 800 m in a straight line from Haukland beach. It lies within the Hauklandstranda outdoor recreation area mapped by the Norwegian Environment Agency, in the grazed Uttakleiv, Haukland and Vik landscape.

Brunstranda

Nearest: Ramberg

A white sandy beach beside the E10 on the north side of Flakstadøya, with a Norwegian Scenic Routes rest area sheltered from the road by a grassy bank. The service building has toilets open all year and a lounge out of the wind. Cyclists and surfers use it.

Flakstadsanden

Nearest: Ramberg

The eastern part of the long beach at Flakstad on Flakstadøya. Kartverket registers Flakstadsanden and Skagsanden as separate names about 170 m apart, while Visit Lofoten calls the surf beach here Flakstad. Surf lessons and rentals are at Lofoten Beach Camp.

Ramberg beach

Nearest: Ramberg

A long sandy beach beside the E10 at Ramberg, Flakstad's administrative centre, on Flakstadøya. A Norwegian Scenic Routes rest area has toilets open all year and a narrow walkway of wooden sleepers down to the sand. Shops and fuel are in the village.

Skagsanden

Nearest: Ramberg

A long outer-coast sand beach at Flakstad on Flakstadøya, east of Ramberg, used for surfing. Lofoten Beach Camp here runs a surf school, board and wetsuit rental, a beach bar and camping. Visit Lofoten lists it among places to watch the midnight sun.

Horseid beach

Nearest: Fredvang

A remote sandy beach at Horseid on the north coast of Moskenesøya, at the site of an old settlement inside Lofotodden National Park. There is no road; Visit Lofoten points to the local boat from Reine to Kjerkfjorden for reaching this side of the island.

Kvalvika

Nearest: Fredvang

A sandy bay on the north-west coast of Moskenesøya in Lofotodden National Park, with no road access. The usual routes start at Innersand or Fredvang school near Fredvang, or cross Skoren from Torsfjorden. There are no toilets or bins at the beach.

Yttersand beaches

Nearest: Fredvang

Sandy beaches at Yttersand near Fredvang, on the part of Moskenesøya that belongs to Flakstad. Visit Lofoten recommends them alongside Kvalvika, Ramberg and Skagsanden. Flakstad's recreation mapping describes shallow sand suited to bathing, with rich birdlife.

Bunes beach

Nearest: Reine

A wide sandy beach facing the open sea on the north side of Moskenesøya, in Lofotodden National Park, between the mountains Storskiva and Helvetestinden. There is no road: take the Reinefjorden boat from Reine to Vindstad, then walk about 2.8 km.

Punn beach

A beach on the island of Værøy, below the mountain Håen. Visit Lofoten says it is difficult to reach without a boat, and that parts of it can be seen from the top of Håen, where it lies close to a steep mountainside.
