Flakstadsanden

The eastern part of the long beach at Flakstad on Flakstadøya. Kartverket registers Flakstadsanden and Skagsanden as separate names about 170 m apart, while Visit Lofoten calls the surf beach here Flakstad. Surf lessons and rentals are at Lofoten Beach Camp.

Rules

  • Fires. Norway's general ban on lighting fires in or near forest and other uncultivated land runs from 15 April to 15 September. Visit Lofoten says fires remain allowed where there is clearly no fire hazard, such as grilling on a beach well away from vegetation, or at municipal fire pits, unless the fire service declares a total ban, which also covers beaches and fire pits. The Lofoten outdoor recreation regulation recommends against disposable grills and recommends using designated fire sites.
  • Dogs. Dogs must be on a lead from 1 April to 20 August across Norway; Flakstad municipality extends this to 15 November in areas with grazing animals.

Surfing

Visit Lofoten: the sandy beach at Flakstad suits beginner and intermediate surfers, with waves often a little smaller than at Unstad.

Flakstad's outdoor recreation mapping (Naturbase, 2014) describes the wider beach area as a long outer-coast sand beach suitable for walking, bathing, surfing and camping.
