About Lofoten Handbook
Lofoten Handbook is a guide to staying in the Lofoten Islands in northern Norway: which place along the chain to base yourself in, what kind of accommodation to look for, and how to plan the rest of the trip around it. It is written to help you choose, then book with the facts in front of you.
What the guide covers
- Places to stay from Svolvær to Å: rorbuer (the fishermen's cabins Lofoten is known for), hotels, cabins and apartments.
- Each village and town along the E10, with what it offers as a base and how it is reached.
- Beaches, things to do, the northern lights and the midnight sun, as those pages are published.
- Getting there and around: airports, ferries, the E10 and whether you need a car.
Where the facts come from
Every page is built from named sources: the property's own website, Visit Lofoten and Visit Norway, the Norwegian mapping authority (Kartverket), the Norwegian Public Roads Administration (Statens vegvesen), transport operators and published reference works. The sources are listed at the foot of each page with the date they were checked, and each page shows when its details were last verified.
The guide is researched from those sources, not from overnight stays, so it does not publish reviews or scores of its own. Where it shows a price, it names the site it was seen on and the date, and takes it down once it is out of date. Opening seasons, timetables and facilities change; pages say when they were checked.
Distances on the guide are straight-line distances between coordinates, because the road is always longer.
How the guide is paid for
Some booking buttons are affiliate links. If you book through one, the guide may earn a commission from the booking site at no extra cost to you. A place to stay is listed whether or not it has a booking link, nobody pays to appear, and there is no sponsored content. The affiliate disclosure explains how the links work.
Who runs it
Lofoten Handbook is run by Charnette Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales that builds and runs websites. It is independent of the properties, operators, tourism bodies and booking sites it describes. The company's registered details are at the foot of this page.
