Sørvågen

Sørvågen lies on the E10, facing Vestfjorden, on the south-east side of Moskenesøya in Moskenes municipality. Visit Lofoten places it between Reine and Å, near the open sea, with hiking in the surrounding mountains, and gives its area as 0.63 square kilometres. It is still a fishing village, with fish landing, fish processing, a slipway and a mechanical workshop, and it receives considerable tourist traffic.

What is there In 1908 Northern Europe's first radio link for general telegram traffic opened between Sørvågen and Røst, partly to serve the Lofoten fishery. That history is the basis of the Telecom Museum, Sørvågen Radio, housed in the former telegraph and telephone station built in 1914 to designs by Lilla Hansen, Norway's first female architect. Visit Lofoten lists several restaurants in Sørvågen and accommodation that includes rorbuer, sea houses and hotels; Holmen Lofoten is on a small private island. The Oddan nature reserve by Sørvågen protects a breeding site for kittiwakes.
