Places to stay in Lofoten
Places to stay in Lofoten range from rorbuer and sea houses on the waterfront to hotels, rental cabins and apartments, hostels and campsites.
Rorbuer
Former fishermen's cabins, built at the shore for the seasonal fishery. Many have been modernised and are let to visitors, either singly or as part of larger complexes. See Rorbuer in Lofoten.
Sea houses (sjøhus)
Along the Norwegian coast, a sea house was a waterfront warehouse built with one wall over deep water so boats could load and unload alongside, and used for handling and storing fish and other goods. Rorbuer were often set above them. Visit Lofoten lists rorbuer and sea houses together as one type of accommodation.
Hotels
Svolvær has the largest selection of accommodation in Lofoten, including a number of hotels, and there are also hotels in Henningsvær, Leknes, Stamsund and Sørvågen. See Hotels in Lofoten.
Cabins and apartments
Rental cabins and apartments have a kitchen, shower and bathroom, and Visit Lofoten recommends them for families and groups. See Cabins and lodges in Lofoten.
Hostels and camping
There are hostels and many campsites. Visit Lofoten recommends that people travelling by motorhome or campervan stay at campsites rather than park overnight by the road.
