Walks

Six hikes: Reinebringen above Reine, Festvågtinden and Fløya with Djevelporten near Svolvær and Henningsvær, Munken from Sørvågen, Mannen above Haukland and Offersøykammen near Leknes. Trail figures come from the source that published them; times are not estimated here.

On the water

Trollfjord and sea eagle boat trips from Svolvær, whale watching, sea kayaking, and fishing trips. Seasons differ: whale watching and the cod fishery are winter, kayaking is mostly summer.

Museums and galleries

Six, and most sit close together. At Storvagan near Kabelvåg, SKREI brings the Lofoten Museum, the Lofoten Aquarium and the Espolin Gallery onto one site. The Lofotr Viking Museum is at Borg, the Norwegian Fishing Village Museum is at the end of the road in Å, and Svolvær has the Lofoten War Memorial Museum and Magic Ice.

Seasonal

Surfing at Unstad and Flakstad runs all year with the right suit. Ski touring is late winter and spring, cycling and photography are year-round, and the Lofoten cod fishery, the skrei season, runs from January to April.

Where can you see puffins in Lofoten?
Puffins nest on Lofoten's outer islets, and Visit Lofoten points to Røst, at the south-western end of the archipelago, for puffins and other seabirds such as gannets and razorbills on the sea cliffs. Røst is reached by the Bodø–Værøy–Røst–Moskenes ferry or by Widerøe flights from Bodø.
What can you do in Lofoten when it rains?
Visit Lofoten suggests galleries and museums, including Lofotr Viking Museum; the Lofoten Aquarium in Kabelvåg; Lofoten Seafood Center in Mortsund; cheese-making at Lofoten Gårdsysteri; and, in Svolvær, the Lofotpils brewery and Magic Ice. What is the Lofotr Viking Museum?
Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg on Vestvågøy is built around the largest known Viking Age longhouse and presents archaeological finds showing how Vikings lived about 1,000 years ago. Visit Lofoten notes it stays open through winter, when many other attractions shorten their hours.
What wildlife can you see in Lofoten?
Visit Lofoten lists elk (moose), foxes, seals, otters, stoats, mink, porpoises, orcas and eagles. White-tailed eagles are common and often seen on boat safaris, including trips to the Trollfjord. Puffins and other seabirds nest on outer islands such as Røst.
What is Lofotodden National Park?
Lofotodden National Park covers 99 km² along the outer, western side of Moskenesøya and was established in 2018. It includes Kvalvika and Bunes beaches. The right to roam applies, but drones are banned, and its visitor centre is in Reine.
