Fløya and Djevelporten hike
Svolvær's local mountain, reached by the Sherpa stairway known as Djeveltrappa up to Djevelporten, a boulder wedged in a gorge, and on along an exposed path to Fløya (590 m).
Trail
- Trailhead. Town-centre parking or Blåtindveien car park, Svolvær
- Distance. 1.5 km one way
- Time. 2 hours one way
- Season. Spring, summer and autumn
- Difficulty. Easy up the stairs, medium to Djevelporten, demanding to the summit cairn (2–3 m scramble)
Why do it
It starts on the edge of Svolvær and the upper section looks over the town and the Vestfjord.
Where
Start from parking in the town centre or the small car park where Blåtindveien bends, north-west of the churchyard (fills quickly). Where the terrain flattens, the right-hand path goes towards Svolværgeita (a climbing objective); keep straight on for Fløya. Descend the same way or by the path marked Lofoten High5 in blue and white; there is no way down towards Svolværgeita.
Best time
Spring, summer and autumn (Visit Lofoten).
How long it takes
Visit Lofoten: 2 hours one way; 1.5 km one way; 590 m.
Who it suits
Visit Lofoten says the stairs suit older children; above them there are steep, exposed sections and some climbing.
Practical information
- Public toilet at the trailhead car park (Visit Lofoten).
- The steep passage below the summit cairn can be harder on the way down, especially when wet (Visit Lofoten).
Rules and closures
- Drones are not allowed at Djevelporten and Fløya because of Svolvær airport (Visit Lofoten drone guide).
- The car park uses Easy Park for payment (Visit Lofoten 10 popular hikes).
