Some are close to farms and animals, while others are within walking distance of shops, boat hire and museums. They suit families and groups who want space, privacy and their own kitchen.

Some lodges are built around an activity. Hemmingodden Lofoten Fishing Lodge in Ballstad is run by working fishermen, and Lofoten Ski Lodge is among Visit Lofoten's places to stay in Kabelvåg. Some campsites also let cabins or rooms, and some rorbu complexes let whole houses by the sea.
