Lofotr Viking Museum

Museum Nord's Viking museum at Borg on Vestvågøy, built around a reconstruction of an 83 m chieftain's longhouse on the site where archaeologists excavated the original in the 1980s. Open year-round, with more outdoor activities in summer.

Why do it

Store norske leksikon describes the Borg house as the largest known from the Viking Age and its feast hall as the only one known from Norwegian Viking times. Visitors can go inside the reconstruction, see the finds and, in season, try archery and axe throwing or sail on the Viking ship.

Where

Prestegårdsveien 4, 8360 Bøstad (Museum Nord). Visit Lofoten describes the location as on the E10, 14 km north of Leknes. A gravel path of about 15–20 minutes links the chieftain's house and the Viking ship harbour.

Open year-round (Visit Lofoten winter page). Museum Nord hours for 16 Sep–31 Dec 2026: 16 Sep–31 Oct Tuesday–Saturday 11:00–17:00; 1 Nov–31 Dec Wednesday and Saturday 11:00–17:00; closed 26 December. Archery and axe throwing 15 May–30 September (Museum Nord); the Viking ship sails several times a day in midsummer (Visit Lofoten).
