Bunes beach

A wide sandy beach facing the open sea on the north side of Moskenesøya, in Lofotodden National Park, between the mountains Storskiva and Helvetestinden. There is no road: take the Reinefjorden boat from Reine to Vindstad, then walk about 2.8 km.

Rules

  • Camping. Visit Lofoten says camping is permitted at Bunesstranda, but not near Helvetestinden because of rockfall risk; avoid clustering many tents, and check the forecast because the beach and camping area are very exposed to north-westerly winds. Camping is allowed in Lofotodden National Park on hard-wearing ground, at least 150 m from inhabited houses or cabins, for no more than two nights in the same spot. Separately, the Lofoten outdoor recreation regulation bans tents from 1 May to 1 October within a mapped area at Vindstad (map 3-3); the map defines its extent.
  • Drones. Drones are banned in Lofotodden National Park under the park's protection regulation (§ 10), unless the management authority grants an exemption. Visit Lofoten names Bunes Beach, Helvetestind and Einangen.
  • Fires. Visit Lofoten asks visitors not to light fires that could damage the beach vegetation and cause erosion. Lofotodden National Park allows fires only on the sand or at established fire spots, never on vegetation or bare rock, and reminds visitors of the general fire ban from 15 April to 15 September.
  • Cycling. Cycling is not allowed on the trail from Bunesfjorden to Bunes (national park protection regulation).

Getting there

No road, and cars cannot reach it. Park in Reine and take the Reinefjorden passenger boat to Vindstad; timetables are on Reis Nordland and tickets are sold in the Reis Nordland and Entur apps. The pier in Reine is about 300 m from the petrol station and signposted, and in high summer boats can fill, so arrive early. From Vindstad pier, turn right through the village and follow the signs over the hill. Visit Lofoten gives 2.8 km one way, a highest point of 80 m, 2–4 hours for the round trip, and rates it an easy walk on a good path; most people take about an hour each way. Season: April to October (Visit Lofoten).

Parking

Visit Lofoten advises parking in Reine and walking to the boat pier; fees are not stated.

Facilities

None listed. Visit Lofoten notes there are no shops in Vindstad, so bring food and supplies. Lofotodden National Park says there are no toilets inside the park; WAG toilet bags are sold at the visitor centre in Reine.
