Ramberg beach
A long sandy beach beside the E10 at Ramberg, Flakstad's administrative centre, on Flakstadøya. A Norwegian Scenic Routes rest area has toilets open all year and a narrow walkway of wooden sleepers down to the sand. Shops and fuel are in the village.
Rules
- Fires. Norway's general ban on lighting fires in or near forest and other uncultivated land runs from 15 April to 15 September. Visit Lofoten says fires remain allowed where there is clearly no fire hazard, such as grilling on a beach well away from vegetation, or at municipal fire pits, unless the fire service declares a total ban, which also covers beaches and fire pits. The Lofoten outdoor recreation regulation recommends against disposable grills and recommends using designated fire sites.
- Dogs. Dogs must be on a lead from 1 April to 20 August across Norway; Flakstad municipality extends this to 15 November in areas with grazing animals.
Good for
- a quick stop from the E10 with year-round toilets
- walking
- kiting and paddling
Getting there
By road. Visit Lofoten describes the beach as on the north side of Flakstadøya and easy to reach from the road; at the Norwegian Scenic Routes rest area a narrow walkway of railway sleepers leads down to the beach. Visit Lofoten suggests Ryten and Kvalvika as nearby hikes.
Swimming
Flakstad's outdoor recreation mapping (Naturbase, 2014) lists the beach, about 1 km long, for bathing, kiting, paddling and walking.
Facilities
Toilets open all year at the Norwegian Scenic Routes rest area, where emptying motorhome toilets is not permitted, and a photo viewpoint beside the beach. Ramberg has a petrol station, shops, tourist information, restaurants, cafés and accommodation (Visit Lofoten).
