Skagsanden

A long outer-coast sand beach at Flakstad on Flakstadøya, east of Ramberg, used for surfing. Lofoten Beach Camp here runs a surf school, board and wetsuit rental, a beach bar and camping. Visit Lofoten lists it among places to watch the midnight sun.

Rules

  • Camping. Lofoten Beach Camp operates a campsite at Flakstad; Naturbase lists camping among the uses of the beach area. No site-specific ban was found in the Lofoten outdoor recreation regulation.
  • Fires. Norway's general ban on lighting fires in or near forest and other uncultivated land runs from 15 April to 15 September. Visit Lofoten says fires remain allowed where there is clearly no fire hazard, such as grilling on a beach well away from vegetation, or at municipal fire pits, unless the fire service declares a total ban, which also covers beaches and fire pits. The Lofoten outdoor recreation regulation recommends against disposable grills and recommends using designated fire sites.
  • Dogs. Dogs must be on a lead from 1 April to 20 August across Norway; Flakstad municipality extends this to 15 November in areas with grazing animals.

Surfing

Visit Lofoten: the sandy beach at Flakstad suits beginner and intermediate surfers, with waves often a little smaller than at Unstad; the biggest swells reach the Lofoten coast from September to April. Lofoten Beach Camp offers year-round courses and rentals.

Getting there

Lofoten Beach Camp, which runs surf courses on the beach, gives its address as Kjerkveien 45, 8380 Ramberg. OpenStreetMap maps bus stops named 'Lofoten beach camp' on the road near the camp. A wheelchair user's three-day itinerary published by Visit Lofoten includes a stop at Skagsanden.

Swimming

Flakstad's outdoor recreation mapping (Naturbase, 2014) lists the beach as suitable for walking, bathing, surfing and camping.

Lofoten Beach Camp lists showers, changing rooms, a bookable sauna and a beach bar. Rentals (not bookable in advance): soft surfboard NOK 300, epoxy surfboard NOK 400, SUP board NOK 300, single sit-on-top kayak NOK 300, double NOK 500; wetsuits in all sizes, NOK 500.
