Lofoten Basecamp

A cabin on its own small beach seven kilometres from Leknes and eight from the airport, with a sauna, a kitchen in most units and Haukland and Utakleiv beaches eight kilometres off by the camp's own reckoning.

Families and groups in the three-bedroom Ocean View villas; couples in the Harbour View cabins and the Superior twin; and travellers with a dog, which the camp takes on request. The Offersøykammen path, one of the shorter climbs on Vestvågøy, starts close by.

Reception shuts from 11:00 until 14:00, then again at 21:00, so a late arrival means using the self check-in instructions the camp sends out. Arrival otherwise closes at 20:00, which is early. No extra beds are available and children from four pay the adult rate. The standard rooms are 15 m² and have no terrace. The camp names nearby spots for the northern lights and the midnight sun, but no one can promise a sighting of either: both depend on the season, the cloud and the weather.

Six unit types. The Ocean View villa is 70 m² and sleeps six, with three bedrooms — a twin on the first floor and two more above — and, by the camp's own answer, a bathroom on each floor. Harbour View cabins of 24 m² and 21 m² sleep three and two. Standard rooms are 15 m², with a 19 m² version described as having disability access, and the Superior twin is 25 m². Bed layouts recorded include a double with an en-suite bathroom, twin singles, and a single with two bunk beds. Every unit has a private bathroom with a shower.

Booking.com lists a 19 m² standard room with disability access, records one unit as entirely wheelchair accessible and another as wholly on the ground floor, while noting that upper floors elsewhere are reached by stairs only.

Heating, private entrances, hypoallergenic rooms, drying racks, desks, wardrobes and flat-screen TVs with a radio. Kitchens and kitchenettes hold an oven, a hob, a microwave, a dishwasher, a toaster, a kettle, a coffee machine and a fridge, with a washing machine listed. Outside there are balconies, patios, terraces, outdoor furniture and dining areas, a picnic area and a private beach area, with sea, lake and mountain views. A sauna stands on the site, along with a fire pit and grill. Parking and WiFi are free.

Self-catering: most units have a kitchen or kitchenette, and all have a coffee maker, a kettle and a fridge. There is no restaurant on site; the camp points guests to the supermarkets and restaurants in Leknes, six minutes away by its own account and open late, with more within a quarter of an hour.

The camp is at Skreda 37, postcode 8370 Leknes, on Offersøya in Vestvågøy — 783 metres from the settlement Kartverket registers as Offersøya and 4.1 km in a straight line from Leknes. Booking.com marks it beachfront, with a private beach area and sea views.

The listing puts Leknes 7 km away and the airport 8 km off, and gives Å and Svolvær each about an hour's drive away. The camp adds that Haukland and Utakleiv beaches are 8 km off.
