Leknes is a service town rather than a fishing village, so a rorbu near Leknes means a cabin in one of the villages around it. Lofoten Havfiske and Lofoten Basecamp share an address at Skreda, on Offersøya, about 8 km out. Leknes Airport is about 2 km from the town centre, which is why people search from here. Check the address on each listing before booking.

What they are like

Ure Lodge and Kaikanten Rorbuer are renovated cabins in old fishing villages on the Vestfjord side; Eggum Rorbuer faces the open Atlantic on the north coast. Napp is over the water on Flakstadøya, reached through the Nappstraumen tunnel. Each listing shows the facilities a source records, such as a kitchen, a sauna or a waterfront position.

Getting around

Leknes is the bus hub for west Lofoten. Routes to Å (742), Ballstad (766), Mortsund, Ure and Stamsund (767), Uttakleiv (765) and Ramberg, Fredvang and Nusfjord (771) start there, and route 300 runs Å–Leknes–Svolvær–Narvik. Hurtigruten calls at Stamsund rather than Leknes.

Who it suits

Travellers flying into Leknes who want a cabin, and anyone covering both coasts of Vestvågøya — Haukland and Uttakleiv to the north, the Lofotr Viking Museum at Borg — from one base. If you want to walk to a restaurant in the evening, a village with its own harbour will suit better than the town.
