Rorbu in Stamsund, near Leknes

Stamsund is a working fishing harbour on the south coast of Vestvågøy and a port of call for the Hurtigruten coastal ships. The cabins stand at Steineveien 17, about 10 km from Leknes in a straight line, and the business behind them, Live Lofoten, counts 14 cabins of two or three bedrooms on its own site.

Booking.com lists seven of those units, most of them around 50 m² and sleeping four to seven. Each has a kitchenette with dishwasher, oven and microwave, its own bathroom, a desk and a sofa; several open onto a terrace or patio with the sea in front. Bed linen and towels are in the units, with towels and sheets also listed at an extra fee.

What separates this from a row of self-catering cabins is the service around it: a restaurant, a bar, a coffee house, a snack bar, bicycles at no charge, a car rental desk and an airport shuttle the property priced at NOK 600. Laundry runs on electricity cards bought in the restaurant, and boat hire has been quoted at NOK 1,090 plus fuel.

Why stay here

You can cook or eat on site, borrow a bike, hire a boat and be met at the airport, which is unusual for cabins at this price. Arriving late by sea is handled too: the property has said keys are left in a box outside for guests who reach Stamsund on the night ferry.

Who it’s for

Families and groups of four to seven wanting a whole cabin with the convenience of a kitchen and a restaurant in the same yard, and travellers without a car who can use the shuttle, the bicycles and the Hurtigruten sailings. Guests score it 8.6 out of 10 across 294 Booking.com reviews, lower than most cabins in this guide, so read recent reviews on what has been refurbished.
