Unstad is where surfing in Norway began in 1963, and the resort grew out of the family's original campsite. Most guests book a package that bundles lodging, meals, surf or ski guiding, equipment and local transfers. Room-only guests still get the café, wood-fired sauna, cold plunge and jacuzzi.

Things to consider

Unstad is at the end of a 9 km side road off the E10, roughly 15–20 minutes beyond Leknes, and public transport there is very limited. Group pick-ups from Leknes or Stamsund are charged per person.

The accommodation

Cabins, a beachfront house with bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and living area, larger shared houses and a 50 m² penthouse suite with a rooftop terrace. Cabins 4 and 5 have a kitchen, bathroom, TV and Wi-Fi. Package guests have private bedrooms.

Location

Unstad, on the north (ocean) side of Vestvågøy; take the E10 past Leknes and turn off before the Lofotr Viking Museum, then 9 km to the bay. Closest listed destination is Leknes.
