Ellahuset is not let by a rental company. It is the old house on a working farm — Lofoten Gårdsysteri at Saupstad, which keeps goats, runs organically and biodynamically, and makes and sells its own cheese from a shop and café on the same yard.

The house has been restored and is taken as a whole. The farm gives it three bedrooms and up to five guests; Visit Lofoten's entry for the same house says six. Kitchen, WiFi, parking and a garden are listed, and the farm can arrange an organic lunch or sell you produce to take in.

It is booked through Airbnb rather than Booking.com, or by contacting the farm directly, so it does not appear in the booking search most visitors start from.

Why stay here

Few places in Lofoten put you on a working farm. The cheese dairy, the farm shop and the café are steps from the door, the valley runs between fjord and mountains, and Unstad and its beach are not far. The house is yours whole, with its own parking and garden.

Small families or groups who would rather stay on a farm than in a village, and who like the idea of buying their breakfast cheese from the dairy that made it. Self-catering, so bring or buy the rest.

The party size is not settled: the farm's own page says up to five guests in three bedrooms, while Visit Lofoten gives a maximum of six. Confirm before booking. The house is booked through Airbnb or directly with the farm, not through Booking.com. From January to March the farm shop and café open by appointment only. It is a farm, so expect farm hours and farm noise.
