Svinøya Rorbuer

A self-catering cabin with a sea or harbour view inside Svolvær rather than out of it, with a restaurant in a nearly two-hundred-year-old warehouse, a bar and a sauna on the same site.

Pairs in the 20 m² Vestfjord double or the S-grade cabin, families and groups in the 75 and 115 m² units. It suits people who want a kitchen and a restaurant in the same place, and anyone using Svolvær as a base who would rather walk to town than drive.

No extra beds are offered. A cot for a child under three costs NOK 200 per stay, paid at the property and subject to the unit you book, and children of six and over are charged as adults. Upper floors in some units are reached by stairs only, though others sit entirely on the ground floor. Pets are not accepted and the resort does not take hen or stag parties. It runs no airport transfer, but has said it will book a taxi for guests. Booking more than five rooms can change the terms.

Eight bookable grades. The rorbu cabins are Rorbu S Twin at 35 m², Rorbu M+ at 45 m², Rorbu XL at 75 m² and Rorbu XXL with Sauna at 115 m². The Vestfjord units are a 20 m² standard double, a 45 m² one-bedroom, a 65 m² unit listed with three beds and a 75 m² studio with two. Bedrooms across the property hold either two single beds or one large double, and one of them has its own bathroom in Booking.com's breakdown. Each unit has a private bathroom and a kitchen or kitchenette.

Some units sit entirely on the ground floor; in others the upper floor is reached by stairs only.

Free WiFi and free on-site parking, a restaurant, a bar, room service, a snack bar, a sauna and a spa and wellness area. Units have a kitchen or kitchenette with a fridge, hob, oven, dishwasher, kettle, coffee and tea making and kitchenware, a dining table, a sofa and seating area, a private bathroom, a hairdryer, towels and linen, wooden floors, and a terrace, patio or balcony with outdoor dining furniture. Wine and champagne, children's meals and special diet menus are listed, and the resort's own site adds a floating sauna by the restaurant.

Børsen Spiseri is the restaurant on site, in a quayside warehouse from 1828, with a bar and room service alongside it. Children's meals, special diet menus on request and a snack bar are listed. Each cabin also has a kitchen, so self-catering is an option.

Gunnar Bergs vei 2 on Svinøya, the island joined to Svolvær by a bridge, in Vågan municipality. Kartverket registers Svolvær as a by (town) and the resort stands about 700 metres in a straight line from the centre point this guide uses, close enough to walk in but on its own ground by the water.

Booking.com puts both the middle of Svolvær and Svolværgeita inside a kilometre. Parking on the site is free. The resort has said it does not run an airport transfer itself but will book a taxi for guests.
