Svolvær is a town of 4,807 residents and the trading, service and transport centre for eastern Lofoten, and it has the widest choice of hotels in the islands. Most of those listed here are in the town; Lødingen Brygge is a 21-room seafront hotel at Lødingen on Hinnøya, about 101 km by road and outside the Lofoten islands.

What they are like

They run from chain hotels on the harbour to small town hotels. Thon Hotel Lofoten has 190 rooms on the town square, in the same building as the Lofoten Kulturhus arts centre, with the coastal ship docking just outside. Scandic Vestfjord Lofoten has 63 rooms on the pier. Thon Hotel Svolvær, Scandic Svolvær, Fast Hotel Svolvær, Fast Hotel Lofoten, Nordis Hotel Lofoten and Marina Hotel Lofoten fill in around them. Visit Lofoten notes that several Lofoten hotels stand at the edge of the pier and that many are linked to restaurants.

Getting there

Svolvær Airport, Helle, is about 5 km east of the centre and Leknes Airport about 68 km west. Hurtigruten and Havila coastal ships call in the town, an express boat runs to Bodø by way of Skrova, and bus routes 300, 741, 743 and 724 serve the town. It is the one place in the chain with an airport, coastal ship calls, an express boat and regional buses together.

Who it suits

Anyone who wants a room with breakfast, a lift and a restaurant within walking distance of shops and the boat quays, and anyone arriving late or leaving early by air. For a cabin on the water instead, Svolvær has rorbuer in the same harbour. For a smaller village with hotels of its own, Henningsvær is about 24 km away and Kabelvåg 5.5 km.
