These places to stay record that they suit families. That comes from what each place says about itself in a source we cite, so a property without the record is unknown rather than unsuitable for children.

Most are self-catering and record a kitchen, which is what usually decides a trip with children here. Meals out are limited outside the larger villages.

Where they are

The chain beside the list counts how many are filed under each of the guide's places, from the current listings.

Each place is grouped with the nearest of the guide's destinations in a straight line, so a village's total covers the coast around it as well as the village itself.

What they record

Most record a kitchen, and many a sea view. Some stand at the water's edge, which matters with young children, and some record a sauna or a hot tub. Where a place records its bedrooms, its maximum party size or a Booking.com guest rating, its page shows it, the rating with the date it was checked.

What to check before booking

The number a place sleeps and the number of bedrooms are recorded separately, and a high capacity often means sofa beds rather than rooms. Where a figure is missing the listing is the place to settle it. Stairs, a single bathroom and a remote road are covered in each property's own things to consider.

Is Lofoten a good destination with children?
Visit Lofoten promotes the islands for families, listing farm visits, horse riding, surfing, the Lofotr Viking Museum and the Lofoten Aquarium. Choose walks with care: the Bunes beach walk is described as suitable for families, Kvalvika and Ryten suits children aged about 10 and over, and Reinebringen is not recommended for small children.
